ACCOLADES

94 Points – Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2016 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast absolutely sings of kirsch, violets, fresh raspberries, rose hips and anise with touches of lavender, forest floor and ceps. The medium to full-bodied palate is laden with perfumed red fruits, framed by velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and layered.  — Lisa Perrotti-Brown

90 Points – PinotFile

Moderate garnet color in the glass. Aromas of boysenberry, spice, floral cologne and toasty oak. Soft and smooth in the mouth, with an intense mid palate presence of purple and black berry fruits. A hint of oak-driven spice and toast ply the background. The well-integrated tannins and juicy acidity compliment the wine.  — Rusty Gaffney, MD

92 Points – California Grapevine

Medium-light brickish ruby; attractive, red cherry, strawberry, and cranberry fruit aroma with hints of dried herbs, forest floor, jasmine, and sandalwood; medium to medium-full body; moderately intense, silky, red and dark fruit flavors with bright acidity, light oaky undertones, and hints of Asian spices; medium tannin; lingering aftertaste. Nicely balanced and somewhat elegant in the mouthfeel making the wine very enjoyable to drink now or over the next two to four years. Very highly recommended.  — Nick Ponomareff

TASTING NOTES

Aromatically this wine is a bowl full of juicy berries and a bouquet of fresh violets, tea leaves and jasmine. Bright bing cherry flavors dance with cranberry, rhubarb, and blackberry; interwoven with Asian five-spice and vanilla. This bright ruby wine is medium-bodied and firmly structured.

THE 2016 VINTAGE

The 2016 growing season was welcomed with abundant and consistent winter rainfalls to replenish the earth and provide ample supply of water. Bud break arrived slightly early followed by April showers. As warmer days arrived, the vines thrived in steady and mild summer temperatures. Our vineyards bask in the generous daytime sunlight and a predominantly maritime influence of the Pacific Ocean and San Pablo Bay which brings cool temperate fog and afternoon breeze. These moderate growing conditions promote long and even ripening with natural acidity balance and full, complex flavor maturity. Our farming approach is low-impact, and in harmony with Mother Nature. Harvest begins in the early morning hours during the coolest part of the day; with yields below average for this vintage.
